Suzy Evans is a New York-based entertainment and lifestyle journalist, whose writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Backstage, The Huffington Post, Fast Company, Dwell, and several other outlets. Suzy is currently the managing editor of American Theatre, and she is also a regular theater contributor for The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard, for which she recently wrote the cover story on Idina Menzel after “Let It Go” topped the charts. (The issue became the first of the year to sell out.) Prior to joining the team at American Theatre, Suzy was a senior editor at Backstage, where she was part of the magazine and website’s 2012 re-branding and re-launch.
She is also a seasoned celebrity interviewer, and has interviewed Julia Roberts, Jessica Chastain, Matthew Broderick, Zooey Deschanel, Ethan Hawke, Idina Menzel, Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Aziz Ansari, Kyra Sedgwick, Julia Stiles, Jake Johnson, Elisabeth Moss, Aaron Paul, Audra McDonald, Margo Martindale, Chris Cooper, Lily Rabe, Lauren Graham, Blair Underwood, Aaron Tveit, and more. She specializes in theater coverage, and she has appeared as an expert on Theater Talk, a PBS-syndicated television show about current happenings on stage, and on the HuffPost Live Snob’s Forum.
Originally from California, she received her degree in English and theater from UCLA, and she received her Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University. During her time in Chicago, Suzy served as the theater writer for Chicagoist, and after she received her Master’s, she worked on the arts desk at the International Herald Tribune in Paris before moving to New York.
